At Social Harvest, we produce our microgreens in our very own greenhouse. Our homegrown microgreens are then used in various Good Food Boxes and are sold through the Ottawa Good Food Box website. However, many still do not know what microgreens are and just how good they are for you. Plus, microgreens are so easy to grow, especially with our growing kit.
What are microgreens?
Microgreens are still relatively new to the broad audience so, people are unsure of what they
are exactly. Well to put it simply, microgreens are baby plants, and they fall in between a sprout and a baby green. Microgreens come in many different varieties, some of the ones that we grow are broccoli, green peas, red radish, and spicy triton radish. Now microgreens won't be your full course meal, but they are an amazing topping to just about anything you can think of! On our Instagram, we have been sharing some of the best recipes that our customers have sent us using our microgreens. Microgreens have so much variety and are so versatile in the way you could use them. Not to mention they have a ton of nutritional value.
Health Benefits
Microgreens don't just taste good, but they are also good for you. No, I mean it; they are really good for you! One amazing thing about them is that their nutrients are very concentrated which means they contain an elevated number of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants; they are specially packed with potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and copper. Studies have shown that the antioxidants present in microgreens could lower your risk for diseases. Some of these studies have concluded that the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and even certain cancers could be reduced just by eating microgreens.
Easy to grow
Microgreens are by far one of the easiest things to grow at home. For one, you don't need a garden as you can grow them inside your actual house. Another benefit of growing microgreens is that you can grow them in confined spaces. Always wanted to do some gardening but you don't have space in your living area then these are perfect for you! At Social Harvest, we make growing microgreens even easier with our microgreen growing kit. We start you off with just about everything you need to grow your microgreens. They taste great, are good for you and easy to grow. There is no excuse not to get into microgreens!
